· Holds BA in Mathematics from Western Maryland College, and a BS and MS in Fire Protection Engineering from the University of Maryland
· Serves as Lecturer at the University of Maryland Department of Fire Protection Engineering
· Has performed design, calculation, specification, and consultation on fire suppression and detection systems since 1970.
· Serves as President of Gagnon Engineering, a fire protection engineering consulting firm
· Registered Professional Engineer in Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and the District of Columbia
· Author: Design of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems, Author: Design of Special Hazard and Fire Alarm Systems, Co-Author: A Designer’s Guide to Fire Alarm Systems, Editor/Author: A Designer’s Guide to Automatic Sprinkler Systems.
· Past President of the following organizations: SFPE Chesapeake Chapter, Maryland Society of Professional Engineers, and the Board of Directors of the University of Maryland Engineering Alumni Chapter.
· Currently President of Tau Beta Pi Baltimore Alumnus Chapter, the National Engineering Honor Society.

· Author of chapter on Ultra High Speed Deluge Systems in the NFPA Fire Protection Handbook.
· Founder and benefactor of the Robert M. Gagnon Centennial Scholarship, the Robert J. Gagnon Memorial Nurses Training Scholarship, and the Robert M. Gagnon Mathematics Award.
